I was invited to apply for a trial of a new Pantene range of products and yay! They chose me to take part. This was for the new Pantene Pro-V Micellar Purify & Nourish range. According the info given, Pro-V Micellar Purify and Nourish collection will be effectively purifying and nourishing our hair without stripping its natural nutrients, it also provides all the strength our hair needs without the weight! So some big claims!

Micellar technology is everywhere these days. From what Iโve gathered, a micelle is a molecule that is attracted to water on one side and oil on the other. So it can mix with water and grab hold of dirty stuff held in the oils in your hair. Michelle at Labmuffin (a fab science and cosmetic blog) explains it well. http://www.labmuffin.com/what-is-micellar-water-and-how-does-it-work/

Yesterday a big box arrived. Inside was a snazzy Super Savvy My bag contained two lots of the following, one for me and one for friends or family!

The shampoo is crystal clear. It foams really well and for my short hair I only needed a small amount. Probably the size of a 20p coin. The nourish foam was unusual. It was exactly like applying a styling mousse except that I did it in the shower and then rinsed out after a couple of minutes to let it do its job. The shampoo smells of crisp green apples. It is a lovely awakening sort of scent.

I didnโt apply any additional volume or styling product. I feel my hair lacked a little body compared to using products so next time I will use my normal styling stuff.

Hello! A few photos of recent nail jobs! It seems blogger has changed since I last did this. No longer is an app! So while I figure out how much things have changed, I'll do something simple! I've switched to using my phone and iPad exclusively for some time. My laptop broke because I kept dropping it and the new one I bought was a dud and failed straight out of the box. So I decided to try to live without. Over six months later I'm still laptop-less.typing isn't as easy but I don't write pages and pages so the little iPad keyboard does ok.

Today I have an odd mix on my nails but what I'd like to show is the lovely, bright and fiery colour that is OPI Cajun Shrimp and a similarly fiery Lynnderella I have used as an accent. This is the first blog post I have made using the pictures from my new (in March) iPhone 6 plus. It is an enormous phone and I am not convinced yet that it is the right size for me. As an aside, the case I have on my phone matches Cajun Shrimp.

OPI Cajun Shrimp is a vivid red/coral and has a lovely smooth texture. It is runnier than most OPIs I have and I did get a bit of a flooded cuticle. Easy to solve by ensuring less polish on the brush. This is one of my favourite polishes and I am on my second bottle (but the first was a mini!).

Lynnderella Starfish Valentine was a limited edition released before Valentine's Day 2016. It is the rich red/orange glitter and shimmer you see, suspended in a same colour base. There are starfish glitters, pink dots and golden hearts. I did find the shapes a little shy to leave the bottle but I can see there are plenty in there. Maybe next time I'll have to stand it up side down for five minutes before using.

The dried finish was smooth - except for the starfish which was a little raised - but one coat of Poshe basecoat and then a layer of Seche Vite fixed that. There are red and gold tiny sparks in the finish and some tiny flashes of holographic sparks.

Hello! It is Valentines' Day today. A strange day and it has made me think about the people I love and consider friends. A person I considered a close friend vanished from my life recently. I was so concerned that I considered reporting her as a missing person but then realised it would be a ridiculous thing to do. She was someone I'd only spoken to via the internet. Today she made contact and nothing she said makes any sense at all. I cannot fathom it and now I don't want to.

Enough.

So today I have used one of my favourite brands, Lynnderella, and chosen the polish called 'Do Not Drink'. I remember pink paraffin being available from garage forecourts when I was a kid and I am sure it had a warning label advising us not to drink it! I have failed to capture the majesty of this polish. It has a red finish crammed with magenta, violet and pink sparks. There is even a smattering of holographic sparkles too.

This is blurry on purposes to try to capture the sparkles. It glows in real life but the camera needs to be out of focus to see the impact. You can see the blue/violet sparks here. I painted two accent nails of the Lynnderella over a base of a CBL Oops purple holographic polish.

Hello! Another post so soon!
Today I decided upon a brown nail-job. I painted a brown cream over all nails and then used Lynnderella "How Now Brown Holo" over the ring and middle nails and Enchanted Polish "Hot Chocolate for Unicorns" on the rest.

Both are superb polishes; the Lynn has pink and copper sparkles as well as holo twinkles and the EP is a mid brown creamy holo. I used two coats of each polish.

I used a top coat of Seche Vite over the Lynnderella as this one does dry to a matte finish. It is fairly smooth after one coat of SV but I may add another later to get the glass like finish I enjoy.

The EP is a rich chocolate colour and looks better in real life to me than the picture suggests. It is a darker brown on the nail. I top-coated with Nails Inc 45 second Caviar top coat. It is gives a fab shiny finish to most polishes but I prefer it on creams or holographic finishes.
I used the DL Glitter Base in mint green. Now CBL Gemini Rising is the most wonderful green holo, so full of pigment, but it can leave nails with a parting gift when it is removed. Yellow nails. This is not really an issue when your nails are painted all the time but I get it. It isn't a good look.

I painted the unusual mint green base and it leaves a polish that you could wear on its own. There are no streaks, it has a gel look to it when dry. It is a little thicker than normal base coats but this is not a normal base coat. Then two coats of GR on most nails and a glitter on the others.

When time comes to remove the polish, it is easy. I find that glitter comes off much easier than holographic or creamy polishes. It is a matter of finding an edge and using an orange stick to ease it off. Mostly it peels in one or two chunks but sometimes it sticks to the free edge, For me, I can use the orange stick or polish remover to get this remaining bit to peel. I have not noticed any damage to my nail plate.

I have the older clear peel-off they made and that is not so good and for me; polish pops off unexpectedly. The coloured ones stay on for longer and need an intervention to peel off. I am sorry that they are out of sequence but they don't always match well that way.

Sapphire is a lovely light blue with a slight pink shimmer. It is a thin holographic polish but applies well, no bald spots or dragging. It does take a while to dry properly and is prone to dinting for some time after application.

Elegance is a mid pink with no discernable shimmer. It is a thick holographic polish and applies well and seems to dry normally. This is much closer to what we see as holo polish in 2015 from Indie makers, it isn't quite as stinky as some OPI holographic polish and the formula is good.

Both polishes are painted over a base that is close to the DS in colour. I do this simply to save building up several coats of what are now discontinued polishes. The blue base is a Nails Inc called InStyle Bluebell, a light blue cream and the base used for the pink nails is OPI Just Lanai-ing Around and it is from the Hawaiian collection so should be easy to find.

Close ups show the strong holographic effect and a little of the pink shimmer in Sapphire. The base colour hasn't changed how this looks; I have used it on its own a few times and it does build to this shade in 2-3 coats. No top coat has been used in these pictures.

These DS polishes are long discontinued and if you want either, you will have to look on eBay or Facebook sale pages. They do pop up from time to time.

If you are reading, then I'd love your comments, feedback is always appreciated. I am not a nail technician or a photographer! More in the DS series today (does that make sense? Designer Series series?) - with the dusty blue that is Glamour. At number 18 it is a latecomer to the series and seems it should belong with the earlier linear holographic polishes such as Original etc. I have used my Lynnderella custom, Bliss is Blue, as an accent.
As you can see the OPI is a lovely dark mid blue linear holographic polish, having an almost faded denim look to it. It is painted over a royal blue gel that you can see peeps of at the edges. The colour is fairly accurate, I saved a few coats of the precious OPI by using a base.

The OPI applies well, has a fluid texture and dries fast. It is quite stinky too. I love the colour and although I have some dupes (Ninja Glamorous for instance) nothing beats the original.

As for my custom Lynnderella, it is a bright blue with purple and magenta accent glitters. There is a dash of holographic spark in the mix.

This DS polishe is long discontinued and if you want it, you will have to look on eBay or Facebook sale pages. It does pop up from time to time. My Lynnderella custom was made to order and you would need to contact them to enquire whether custom orders are being taken.
If you are reading, then I'd love your comments, feedback is always appreciated. I am not a nail technician or a photographer! I do not claim to have fantastic nails. I simply own some fabulous polishes!

DS Diamond is one of the last linear holographic polishes in the Designer Series. It is an unusual colour, sort of grey, sort of lilac, sort of light brown, sort of silver!
It was one of the 4 I bought brand new in 2006/7 and I was impressed at the time. I still am! The product has discoloured in the bottle but this doesn't seem to have affected the quality so far. I am not sure what has caused this to happen.

Application is great, it is smooth and doesn't have any problems with dragging. It was longer than average in dry time and did dint a little later. I have not used topcoat, it is this shiny out of the bottle. Maybe dry time would have been improved if I had used topcoat.

This doesn't have the same stinky smell as the earlier DS polishes but is stronger smelling than other OPI polishes. So I guess this was made as they were reformulating their products.
It is a shame that these are consecutive numbers as they are quite similar; one falls on the orange side of the pink line and the other is definitely on the pink side!

Couture is fairly fluid and paints well. It is an orange toned pink (or a pink toned orange...) and it has a lovely flame. I found it dried quickly. Divine is a thicker polish and is more tricky to apply as the second coat seemed to drag a little. It took longer to dry and was susceptible to dinting for some time after.

As you can see from the picture below, the polishes are close in colour and a passing non nail person might not notice I had two different colours on my hand. The difference between the two is more noticeable in natural daylight; under lamp light the colours seem close.
Close ups of both colours shows the holo effect and that the shades are quite different.

This might contain a spoiler for anyone receiving a box from Down Under during February 2015... so if this is you and you do not want to see what is in the box, please do not go any further.

I sometimes receive polish from overseas for my Scottish friends because packages arriving in London can take an internal flight to reach them over the border. Sometimes the box is captured on the way to taking this flight and it has happened a little too often to chance it.

Miss X often invites me to have a peep and play ... and this is what was inside the box!

The box has five Australian brands and I think the brands included vary slightly each time. There are three holographic polishes, one shimmery sort of holo and one micro-glitter.

All had fab application and dried reasonably quickly. The picture shows two coats with no top coat.

Starting with my thumb, this is the Peita Polish. At first it reminded me of EP Marge's Blue Beehive. On reflection, I think it is lighter and is more like December 14. It has a medium strong holographic flame.

My index finger has the Powder Perfect polish and it is a subdued orange with a subtle holo effect. It is a lovely polish to apply.

Next we have a Glam Polish and it is an easy applying red holo with some red sparkles.

On my ring finger is a lovely green micro-glittery sort of polish by Miss Ashleigh. It dries smoother than most micro glitters so I suspect it has something more to it. Perhaps it is a rich green jelly holding lots of tiny glitters. In the bottle, there are red sparkles showing, like red eyes glinting in a haunted forest. This doesn't really translate to the nail but there are a few red sparkles if you look closely.

Finally, my little finger has Lilypad. This is a lilac with a mix of pink and purple shimmers. There is a slight sprinkle of holo. It is a pretty polish yet I feel it is neither one thing nor another. I'd prefer a stronger holo effect or none at all if I am honest.

These mystery boxes are available from Peita's website and cost roughly ยฃ40 with postage from Australia included.

The box is nice enough with five good quality polishes but perhaps there are simply too many good holographic polishes available these days. This is a general comment rather than a specific grumble at this one. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with opening this box.

The next box for March 2015 has a Disney Princess theme and is available now from here.๐งก๐ฌ๐งhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00550349469770543594noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7823434958507769924.post-90446064587585689452015-02-13T12:32:00.004+00:002015-02-16T11:34:44.857+00:00My OPI Designer Series: OPI DS 001 - 003: Shimmer, Exclusive and Original

Hello

I am lucky enough to have all of the regular OPI Designer Series polishes. There are just under 50 and they have been available for around ten years with OPI releasing a few new ones every year. There are a few that were released into the Japanese market. I do not have any of these.

The first few were stunning linear holographic polishes. They have ventured into shimmers, duo chromes, scattered holos, liquid sands and matte along the way. I think it is fair to say the earlier ones are the most sought after and are possibly the most beautiful. I recall gazing at DS Amethyst and Sapphire in wonder at all the rainbow colours. This was 2006-7 and I wasn't really into polish at that time.

I have bought some brand new and many from private sales on eBay or Amazon. Some were gifts from friends. Most were reasonably priced; one or two were rather more expensive but none were super silly priced. I have seen some on eBay recently for very high prices.

I love these polishes and even the later ones have something about them. With holos becoming almost ubiquitous from the Indies, maybe the DS are no longer as unique as they were. They were, at the time, very different and to me, very special. The only gripe I have is that the silver lids (that distinguish them from normal OPI polishes) tend to tarnish over time. They were sold in boxes at one point.

The blue polish on my middle fingers is Enchanted Polish, Bruised Nutcracker. It isn't part of this OPI series but was just there asking to be used.

OPI DS Shimmer (001) is shown on my little finger. It is a white-ish holo with some golden tone to it and needs two or three coats for full coverage. It dries quickly.

The earlier DS polishes are not 3 free and this means that they are a bit on the stinky side. They have that strong nail polish smell; not as bad as Kleancolor by any means but they have a distinctive smell.

OPI DS Exclusive (002) is possibly my favourite, it is a rich magenta and it has a thicker formula than most of the early DS polishes. This is two coats.

I have used OPI DS Topcoat to finish off. It seems thicker than other OPI topcoats and reminds me of Seche Vite. It seems to dry reasonably quickly and gives a high gloss finish.

The polish below is OPI DS Original (003). It is a dusky violet and I am sure it is what some experts would describe as a brown leaning violet. This is three coats; it is quite sheer to start with but builds up well. I might have, accidentally, acquired three of this one!

So pretty it deserves its own picture!

Some DS polishes are still available from retail sellers of OPI but most are long discontinued and will have to be found in eBay or Facebook sale pages. It took me about a year to complete my collection once I decided to do so. Many came from the USA so postage is another thing to factor into buying.
Two lovely polishes from Enchanted Polish, 2AM Summer Night and Mr Burgundy. I have had both of these for some time. 2AM was a surprise launch in 2014 and Mr Burgundy was sometime in 2013.

2AM is a multi chrome polish with no holographic pigment. It moves through burgundy to red to navy blue and each shift is strong. The application is a bit tricky; I found it thicker than usual and the second coat did drag over the first coat. Maybe a drop of thinners might help.

Mr Burgundy is a perfect holographic polish. I had no issues here, two perfect thin coats. It isn't a raging holo polish with a screaming rainbow of holo flame. It is more grown up than that. There is a definite effect with a blue inner flame but this would be suitable for any occasion.

Both polishes have a coat of Out the Door fast drying topcoat. I prefer this over Seche Vite for non glitter polishes. It is thinner than SV and does the job.
Both polishes are no longer available from Enchanted Polish but you might find she restocks on one of her surprise flash restocks or they might appear in a stockist. There is little public announcement with EP.
Hello ... I have received some stunning polishes recently. I'll say a few words and show some pictures. The first one shown is a gift from Dolly to her Posse Facebook group members. It came in a little pink organza bag with some chocolate treats and a greetings card. A lovely gesture. Thank you Dolly.

The second gift is a beautiful surprise. Also made by Dolly, this is a custom made polish to celebrate my granddaughter's first Christmas. This is a special gift from Linda. Thank you. I love it and it matches the description of my perfect polish that you sneakily extracted from me a few weeks ago!

On my middle and ring finger, this is 3 coats of Izzy's First Christmas, 2014 with Seche Vite as a topcoat. The other fingers have China Glaze OMG and a coat of Dolly's gift. The shine on my skin is from using the beautifully scented cuticle balm; also made by Dolly and a gift from Linda!

On my other hand I have another gift. This is a lovely deep red from Chanel. The other fingers are wearing an OPI pale gold with a light coat of Enchanted Polishes Flashing Lights. The top coat on the red nails is the gift from Dolly. All finished with a coat of Poshe basecoat and Seche Vite.

So I have had some lovely early Christmas gifts. Thank you.

Hello ...

Goodness me, Sparkly has been busy over at Sparkly Towers! No sooner had I tried her first range, Winter 2014 Collection, she offers me a Christmas Special to try! A few days later, from the far side of the USA to the middle(ish) of England, a little white box arrived.

These have no name that I know of, and as they had seasonal stickers where the name would be, we will call them Snowflake and Snowman.

As you can see, Snowflake is a seasonal micro glitter that is choc full of colour. I'd say the base colour is gold with added red and green specks of colour. There is a good sprinkling of holo dust in this mix. A Christmas Pudding for the nails! Will someone find the sixpence?

Snowman looks like a blue holographic micro glitter. It is. Yet, it is so much more sophisticated. There is a rose gold/copper base to this polish with masses of blue and holographic sparks. It is one of the cleverest micro glitters I have seen.

Snowflake was paired with a purple holo that Sparkly included. I haven't heard of the brand before but it is a 'femme couture', called USA Blush. I think it must be a chemist brand (drug store to any American reader) as it has a barcode on the label.
Snowman, shown here in the bottom left corner, is two coats over a bare nail. This shows the copper base shimmer better than when used over a base colour. On my other nails I have a base of one of the OPI Nordic colours, the blurple one. It is a mini so has no name on the base.

Both polishes applied well, I dabbed them on rather than painted, and dry time was fine. I used Poshe 'fast drying basecoat' over the glitters and then a proper topcoat of Seche Vite. The Poshe was another gift from Sparkly; it is a brilliant pre-topcoat for glitters. It seems to settle in the ravines left by the glitter (in micro terms) and lets the topcoat do its job rather than being eaten alive by glitter.

In summary. I love these polishes. Thank you for the opportunity to try them. You can buy the Winter 2014 collection at www.sparklyvernis.com/

Hello! Something very different today! My friend, and established blogger Sparkly Vernis, has been secretly working on a project! Last week we discovered what the project is; she is making her own brand of polish and I have a set of the first range! There are five colours in this first launch. They are all pastel light holographic colours and in the bottle, three look quite similar. On the nail, they are clearly different. From left to right:

Gilded Lemon Drops - a pale gold but not at all yellow.

Mint Frosting - a strong icy minty green

Cotton Candy Sugar- an icy pink tinted lilac

Blurple Ice Cubes - an icy mix of blue and purple

Periwinkle Sprinkles - an icy blue; my bottle is named 'Sue's Periwinkle Sprinkles'. :)

If you go to sparklyvernis.com you can see how the proper bloggers do it! You can buy here and they are $12.99 each with free shipping within the USA. International shipping is flat rate and $25; mine got to me in under a week.

On my left hand I chose Mint Frosting. This is a strongly pigmented minty green. It applies well and two coats were all I needed. Like spreading butter onto hot toast! Dry time was fast and it dries to a semi matte with a strong holo flame. I am not sure my pictures have captured the holo flame.

I often think this sort of green brings out the redness in my very pale skin. Some friends of mine, also pale, have the same thoughts on wearing this type of colour. I think that is simply how minty greens on pale skin are.

The brush is perfect; it isn't too thin and it isn't too thick. It holds the right amount of polish to get a good even coat. The polish has a creamy texture, full of pigment and holo. The bottle holds 12ml, feels heavy, looks classy and the lid is nicely tapered with a semi-matte finish. The writing on the back of the bottle gives lots of information, probably that required by law, but I can only just read it as the font is very small and in white.

I have a nail injury on this hand and the polish didn't help to hide the bump on my middle nail. This is a feature of all holo or shimmer polishes; the effect relies on a smooth surface and my little nail bandage isn't as smooth as it could have been. I have hidden most pictures that show this!

The second polish I used today - on my right hand - is the Blurple Ice Cubes. This is not quite as opaque as Mint Frosting, but still gave a good covering with two coats. I have some horrible staining on two nails (not from SV polish) and this is almost hidden apart from a tiny bit that the camera saw but my eye didn't...

Just look at the colour here. It is a sort of blue and a sort of purple. I guess that's why she called it Blurple! There is a pronounced holo flame and the colour dries a frosty lilac on the nails. In some lights it has a light denim blue effect. Again, a fast drying semi matte finish, and I think for this one, I prefer it top coated. A personal preference.

In summary. I love these polishes. I'd love to see some more colours, more saturated shades of purple and blue and pink etc. All the colours! There is nothing I dislike about the product or the customer service.
Hello!

Something a little different today. I have several of the micro glitters made by Lynnderella. All are lovely but I was curious as to how close they were. In the bottle there are differences but they are all on the purple side of blue and they all have some holographic sparkles in the mix.

I found they were all similar to apply; not exactly like painting with a normal cream polish, more of a paint/dab technique was needed. Shown is two coats, without topcoat. The final picture is with Seche Vite topcoat and I'd recommend using a thick glossy topcoat. It brings out the sparkle and micro glitter much more effectively than leaving them semi-matte.

Couture at the Navy Yard (thumb) is a navy blue; The God Mother Clause (index) is not a true micro glitter and is more of a dense small glitter in a heavily shimmered base; Violet's Dark Side (middle) is a dark violet-navy micro glitter; Thrill Ride (ring) is a purple-blue micro glitter and the little finger is a creamy lilac micro glitter in a heavily shimmered lilac base.

Violet's Dark Side (middle) and Thrill Ride (ring) are to me the closest in colour and effect but differ in the sparkle they throw off. It is difficult to explain why but they are quite different on the nail.

I had a little parcel from Mr Postman today! Inside were two polishes from a lovely lady that we shall call Miss Soprano. She knows who she is and most of my readers might know too! She won't wear green. It might be down to show biz superstition or perhaps it is because she has curly hair. Who knows?

The pictures in this blog have gone. Apologies but I have no idea where they have gone to!

The polishes are both Colors by Llarowe. The first I am showing is called 'In a Dark Place' and it is a forest green shimmery duochrome. When the fingers are turned in the light, different colours in the blue-teal-green spectrum light up. It applies beautifully and really needed just one coat. I painted over OPI "Jade is the new Black". Perfect. I painted my right ring finger with OPI "Russian Navy" as a base for a Lynnderella. That might feature at a later date.

The second colour is a "wow! Look at this green!" sort of green. I don't know what has gone into it, radioactive magic frogs that have been eating genetically engineered grass? It is vivid. It behaves like a holo but the rainbow is green and blue. Again, it is beautiful to apply. I have heard that this one is a stainer but as I have painted over gels, I'll be ok... won't I?

Another fine pair of polishes from Leah Ann's stables.

Hello!

This week I wondered about using one brand. Just one brand. I chose Nerd Lacquer. No real reason except I'd not used them for some time and I have 17 Nerd Lacquers. Time to try them. The plan is to use two everyday until they have all been used. Or until I am bored. I hope you like my pairings!

A matching base colour has been used as I have scarlet red gel polish on my nails. You might see a peek of the gel in some of the pictures.

All Nerd polishes, in my experience, need to stand upside down for sometime as the glitters fall to the bottom of the bottle. Other than that, and that they need a good shake, they apply well and dry fast. A quick coat of a Seche Vite to give some shine and I am good to go!

Monday
Nerd Pinnin' for the Fjords is the blue and Nerd Resolutionary is the pink.I used China Glaze Secret Peri-winkle under the blue and Sinful (Pink Forever) under the pink.
Nerd Outed by a Probot is a blue polish and Entirely Unlike Tea is a nude. Ciate Ferris Wheel (sky blue) and Ciate Bon Bon (nude) were used as base colours.

Probot is a pale sky blue, has teal and white larger accent glitters and lots of smaller silver glitters. It has a silver and blue micro shimmer base.
Tea is a peculiar polish but it works. The base is a mid brown, milky tea if you like, with a lot of silver glitter. There is some glitter that turns blue as the light twists on it and the micro shimmer is pink. Or gold. Or both.

Wednesday

I cheated today. Well, that isn't strictly true. I liked the Entirely Like Tea so much I wanted to keep it on. So I did and just redid the blue nails. Nails Inc Westminster was my base colour. This is a rich cream purple and like many of Nails Inc creams, applied perfectly. I am not a big fan of NI - they are expensive and a bit faddy - but they do a good cream!

Nerd Cold & Calculating is a rich purple with silver and purple glitters of varying shades and sizes. There is a silver micro shimmer in the mix too. The glitter payoff (I think that is the technical term) is good.

Thursday

Nerd Rheingold and Carbon Allotrope. The names are definitely intriguing! I used OPI Ogre the top Blue as a base for Rheingold and an OPI called Glamour Game for Carbon Allotrope. This is a pale gold shimmer but I have tinkered with it and cannot remember what it was like before! Both OPIs are excellent to apply and dry fast.

Nerd Rheingold is a teal leaning blue with metallic gold and black glitters. The micro shimmer is electric blue. It seems less sinky than other Nerds and it applies well.

Nerd Carbon Allotrope is a pale green leaning grey tinted white with silver glitters and micro glitters. The texture seems different from other Nerds so maybe this has had thinners or something else added. That said, it applies well and again, has a good glitter payoff. This reminds me of a granite work surface!

Friday
Nerd Don't Panic is a grass green polish with various shades, sizes and shapes of green glitter. There is a bright green and orange micro shimmer. I think this could be a full coverage polish with two coats. The base colour is Illamasqua Smash, also a grass green cream polish, quite thick to apply but evens out well. Two coats were needed and as usual I applied Seche Vite over the top.

Nerd The Eye is a tomato coloured polish. I would probably say it is orange rather than red. It has a smattering of black matte hexagonal glitters and gold of various shapes and sizes. The larger gold hexagonals are holographic. The micro shimmer is red and gold. The black hexagonals were a little tricky to find. I applied The Eye over China Glaze Riveting, in itself a lovely orange polish.

So this concludes my Nerd week. I know a week usually has 7 days but I am itching to use other brands so my interpretation of a week is a working week, five days!

Today I have used Colors by Llarowe "Hellcat" as an accent mani. Just two nails; middle and ring. It has been applied over a royal blue gel base. Two coats followed by CND Super Shiney. I love this polish, so easy to apply and fast to dry!
It has a pronounced multi-chrome effect, ranging from purple to red to orange to burgundy. The polish is enhanced with coppery flakies that catch the light making it glow from within.

On my other fingers I am wearing Colors by Llarowe Monkey See, Monkey Do. Perhaps an unconventional combination!
I chose two polishes from A England today. Both muted holographics.

Dancing with Nureyev is a dusty denim blue holographic polish. It has a slight pinky-blue sheen to the polish that seems to be a separate layer to the holo effect. Application was easy, the polish is quite thick and spreads easily. I used two coats with Seche Vite as a top coat.

Sleeping Palace is a brown sort of plum colour. No hidden shimmer, just a rich grainy linear holo effect. It isn't an in-your-face holo flame, more of a spread of a warm glow holo effect! Same flawless application as is expected with A England polishes.
You can buy A England from various online retailers. I buy direct from http://www.a-england.co.uk/. Dancing with Nureyev is from the Ballerina collection. Sleeping Palace is from the Burne-Jones collection. They retail for ยฃ9 and this includes UK postage.

If you are reading, then I'd love your comments, feedback is always appreciated.

Today I have used two of my Girly Bits polishes. The name 'Girly Bits' always makes me chuckle. If you know the creator, Pam, you will understand she has a wonderful sense of humour.

The main shade I have used is a grey called 'Peel Here'. There is a story to the name and it goes something like this: Pam's daughter, when very young was asked what was the name of a particular OPI polish. Now, if you are familiar with OPI, you will know that all of their labels at the bottom of the bottle, say 'Peel here' to reveal another label with ingredient and safety information as well as the name of the polish.

This grey is slightly holographic, has a silver and I think a pink shimmer. It is a very subtle polish. The first coat is a bit wishy washy, vague and uninspiring. Add another coat and it morphs into a rich elephant skin colour, creamy and self levelling. An easy polish to work with despite an awkward start!

The purple colour is a fabulous purple. It was created to remember Aja, a young girl who died in tragic circumstances. The proceeds go towards a fund in her memory.

The polish applies superbly, needs one or two coats, and dries smoothly and quickly. It has a linear and scattered effect, one of those grainy type of holo effects. If this finish has a proper name, I don't know it! Please let me know if you do!

Both polishes are available from http://www.girlybitscosmetics.com/.

Hello! . .

A quick blog today using one polish that I have had for a while and one that I bought more recently.
Ciate jelly bean is a hot pink creamy polish with a shy blue shimmer running through. It applies like a dream cream! Two coats, no top coat over a base of Duri Rejuvacote. Perfect. This bottle was a gift with purchase from a magazine back in 2012 I think.

Lynnderella Ten Pipers Pinking is a micro glitter jam packed with pink, purple, magenta particles. It seems to be in a pink base and has some holographic properties to it. The sparkles are not a typical rainbow prismatic effect, more pink and blue with a hint of rainbow. It applies like a cream and two thin coats were needed for full coverage. No top coat has been used in the picture but I think a coat of Seche Vite will enhance the polish. This polish is from Lynnderella's Christmas 2013 range, Twelve Days of Christmas.

December 2013 was shown on the Big Cartel sale page but January 2014 was a mystery, sold sight unseen. Knowing that I would probably like it, I ordered. I do like it, December 2013 is more of a mystery; I liked it when I applied it but when I was outside a short while later, I wasn't so sure.

December 2013 is a toffee, very milky coffee type of nude holo. It has a shimmer, to me the colour of brand new pennies. A sort of pinky, copper, sometime light red effect. Unusual.

January 2014 is a dark blue-green-almost charcoal colour. I can see a lighter blue shimmer but the main effect is of a dark blue holo polish.

I have found the newer EPs to be thicker than I'd like. It has the consistency of double cream. This means that you can get away with one coat but the flip side of this is that it is trickier (to me) to apply. I found a second coat dragged a little on the coat below. Maybe I needed to let it dry more than I did. The jury is out for me, I think I prefer the texture of the Imagine series.
The Lynnderella is unnamed. I think it is called Grinchie. Or something. It came to me from a friend. It has a fabulous light green micro-shimmer and holographic green diamonds, stars, circles and smaller glitters, accented by red glitters and hearts. It applied well although some of the larger shapes were clumped together and needed some on nail surgery to place them. One coat of Seche Vite has smoothed it nicely. I might add a further coat to give a glass like effect.

I wondered about using some edit techniques on the pictures. My cuticles are suffering from the winter. I decided not to in the end. Those of you who know me know I try hard with the skin around my nails but years of nibbling them have left them vulnerable and the weather doesn't help!

If you are reading, then I'd love your comments, feedback is always appreciated.

Hello! I have received lots of surprise gifts this week. Two of them are in this post!

Thank you to the Mad Hat wearing ladies... you know who you are, and to Soprano Sally. Lovely, lovely gifts from lovely, lovely ladies. I am so lucky to have you as friends.

The polishes are:

Chaos & Crocodiles, Squee! A mix of neon blue, purple and pink glitters. All sorts of shapes with a pink and blue micro shimmer. Some of the glitters are quite large and require some patience to retrieve from the bottle. I was after a particular star. If I was not so fussy on the glitter I wanted to place, it would have been easier.

Iconic Effect, Tweedle Dum. A rich blurple mega holo. Applies like butter cream! Just perfect. This shade is a one-off, made just for me. It has a twin sister, not an identical twin, and I will feature her another day! IE has recently won 'UK Indie of the year' with 2 of Kelly's polishes coming in the top 3! Well done Kelly.

A England, Dancing with Nureyev. From the recent Ballerina collection, this is a dusty denim blue holo there is a pink and blue sheen to it. Again, applies perfectly. Just as we have come to expect from Adina.

Perfect!
